So, how do you define self-confidence? Most people would think that it’s being able to do certain things successfully. For example, a salesperson might be confident that he can generate sales and earn higher commissions than everyone else in the company. A lady might think she is confident because she knows how to make men want to ask her out.
The problem with that logic is you are lack of confidence when you aren’t doing the things you like. We cannot be perfect at everything; when the salesman is not selling to others or the lady is not being chased by interested suitors, they don’t have much confidence? As a matter of fact, even very successful people can only do a couple of things very well.
Have you ever tackled a tough project that was hard to do, and it made you feel so good when you were able to get it done; but you still lacked confidence? You’ve done all of the things that go along with success, yet you can’t seem to be more confident in yourself.
“When you’re confident, it goes beyond whatever you’re trying to achieve.”
When you feel like you’ve accomplished something, but you don’t feel like you should be rewarded; psychologists called this Imposter Phenomenon. No matter what you achieve or do, you still cannot find happiness or peace of mind. So what seems to be the issue?
Being confident is not about all your achievements…
It is all about your BELIEFS that you have what it takes to accomplish whatever it is that you want to do. No matter what comes along, you will face it and deal with it. Trust and commit yourself to do what is important. It is achievable because you believe in yourself.
Remember, you don’t always have to succeed in order for your confidence to kick in. That is not the most important thing. The important thing is that you have the mindset (beliefs) that you can get things done. You have the power, strength, and confidence to start your project and optimistically receive a positive outcome.
Basically, only you can produce the outcome that you desperately desire. However, you need to get started right away! This is where your confidence will kick in. If you need to make a few tweaks, you have the ability to do so and continue to work on your goals.
Also, understand that not all outcomes will be positive, but you will learn how to handle it. That is just how life is. When problems come along, you make a few tweaks. Confidence comes from YOU, not from your achievements.
When you think about it, no one has a “default template” for life. Change is always right around the corner. You never know what you have to deal with next. That’s why you must build your confidence so that you will be able to place one foot forward and get through it. No one can predict what will happen, just realize that you might be successful and you might not be. However, you can say that you did your very best. That is all that matters.
It’s not that difficult to learn how to be more confident in yourself. As long as you believe in yourself, ready to tackle whatever situation that might come along – you’re good to go!
