So, I’ve just received my small affiliate commissions earned in Aug 2013 at my PayPal account early this month (Oct 2013). I thought it’d be a great idea to share with you the “behind-the-scenes” strategies I used to create $454.68 without stepping out of my room.
Between, it’s been over a year I never did any affiliate marketing offers and finally I’ve decided to get involved again. The reason is that I want to generate more revenue online.
I know $454.68 is not an attractive amount to a lot of people, but in my country, $1.00 is equivalent to 3x of MYR currency. PLUS, I’ve never spent a single penny from my pocket.
It’s without a doubt that affiliate marketing is one of the fastest methods to make a bucket load of easy money online. There’re few reasons like you don’t need to have a product line, there’s no support required, and you don’t necessarily need to have a website. All you’ve to do is post your affiliate link and make money when people buy from your link.
Everything sounds pretty simple, right? (hmm…)
… except that most people who are just starting out doing it in a completely wrong way. Here’s what they do: they BLAST out their affiliate links everywhere, and eventually, they hope that someone will click on their links and buy something (I’m sure you’ve seen this).
I’d highly recommend you don’t waste your time doing this. It just doesn’t work that way. I knew it because I’ve made this stupid mistake when I first started in 2009, and I made $0.
2 proven strategies I used to earn my extra $454.68…
#1 Be the go-to person in your niche or market: Just think for a second, who do you consult when you’re sick? Most likely a therapist or a doctor right? You contact a plumber when the pipe is broken, you go to the barber when you need a haircut… the list goes on.
It’s the same concept when it comes to doing affiliate marketing. Ask yourself this: “What do people see you as?” I can tell you from personal experience, you’ll make money easily when people come to you instead of you going after them. Huh, what do you mean here?
Case Study: I’ve helped a number of clients to set up their marketing websites. Over time, I’ve built my clientele and they will contact me either asking some technical questions or my recommendations. Each time I recommend something and if they like it, I’ll ask whether it’s ok to get through my affiliate link (I never get a ‘No’ so far). I’ve also experienced 2 rare instances whereby clients asking to buy from my affiliate link directly.
#2 Lifetime lead tracking with continuity element on back-end: Not only you need to promote products that are remarkable, but you also need a great affiliate system to track your leads/sales. The vendors I partnered with used Keap and Nanacast systems.
Both vendors offered a lifetime tracking for every single lead (referral) I bring in. This is worthy because you can earn commissions on ALL future purchases from your referrals.
In addition to that, it’d be an added bonus to you if the products you promote have some sort of continuity element on the back-end. You’ll build a good long-term passive income.
Case Study: From all the sales I referred in Aug 2013, 2 people actually purchased another training product that the vendor offered, so the one-time commissions are credited to my account. Besides that, they also subscribed to a monthly membership package (upsell), which has generated me 2 recurring commissions every single month.
Of course there’re many other strategies you can use in your affiliate marketing offers. Things like: rank your product in search engines (you’ll need SEO skills), doing joint venture (JV), conducting webinar, buying ads/traffic, and etc. Please do a Google search.
